Cwmgwrach Drift Mine
Four years after the last coal train ran from Cwmgwrach through the Neath Valley, Unity despatched it's first trial train of 21 x HTA coal hoppers to Aberthaw Power Station on Thursday 12th May 2011 with coal mined from the re-opened Cwmgwrach Drift Mine. It is anticipated that two trains per day will run when production is in full swing. Many thanks to John and Kevin for sharing their day with me and Alcwyn for the pictures that I would normally have missed. The final picture is dedicated to Colin Baker for all his help over the past fifteen years and was taken on 30th March 1996 at Cwmgwrach when real trains were powered by 'pairs of tractors' and driven by Colin in his youthful years.
